Lower Your Expectations, Tension & Doubt set to play free Limerick Concept NULL show this Friday

Cathal Ryan

Last weekend SIONNA festival (a joint venture of Give Us The Night & Touch of Techno) kicked off in Limerick. Featuring artists such as Citrus Fresh and Hazey Haze, the festival took over King John’s Castle in a night of experimental hip-hop, a night that showed live music is back in the city.

Now, this Friday, Concept NULL returns to Shannon Rowing Club with an event that aims to resemble the established club night while “challenging the traditional art gallery environment” bringing a selection of experimental electronic acts to the stage surrounded by interactive installations from local artists.

Placing an emphasis on visual art, Concept NULL offers “an organic, one-way experience” into the venue to “explore audio/visual art in the gallery context” through the use of installations and electronic music. Throughout three rooms, interactive art stemming from a wide range of artistic disciplines have been created, resulting in a multitude of tactile, interactive exhibits and audio experiences.

The installations, created by Limerick based artists Ciara Barker, Míchéal Keating, Adam Deegan, John Welby and Scott Robinson, will be accompanied by music from percussion-focused dance music label Flood founders, Doubt and Tension, North Kerry Industrial Pop artist An Eldritch Abomination and dance focused sounds from Limerick based club night Lower Your Expectations.

Organisers said they are “most excited to see people being able to physically enter the space and experience something hopefully novel to them. That’s something that’s really been lost over this pandemic.”

The event is free of charge but registration is required. Tickets can be booked here.
