Lyra returns with effervescent new single ‘Falling’

Ruth Cronin

Lyra is a Cork-hailing artist that has been creating a quiet roll of buzz for some time now.

We first featured her back in 2016 when she released her debut EP W.I.L.D. and we’ve been fans ever since. The EP was lush and cinematic, with large soundscapes and grand drums that merited placements on several TV shows and advertisements. There were sure Florence & The Machine and Kate Bush influences there, but there was also traces of electronic artists like FKA Twigs and her new single ‘Falling’, out today, indicates that new material is weaving those influences closer together that ever before.

‘Falling’ opens with arpeggiated strings and sharp percussion and gradually builds into a dynamic chorus showcasing Lyra’s soaring vocal talents. Singing with her Irish accent is something that she embraced in the past and it shines through here in her diction and delivery.

Lyra said that:

“’Falling’ is about something I think most of us girls have experienced in life… Falling for a guy, who it seems to be going swimmingly with only to find out he’s been seeing other girls on the side… I started writing this song at home in my PJ’s when I’d given up crying and decided I wanted to do something that had a bit of a sexy feel to it, something that made me feel empowered in this shit situation I’d found myself in.”

Now based in London, Lyra recently signed to Universal Music and Imagem Publishing and more material is expected later this year.
