The Dublin band follow February’s ‘Suit & Tie’ with another new single, continuing a run that’s also taken them on a North American tour at the moment.
Soda Blonde have shared a new single, ‘My Violence’, with an accompanying static and effective one-shot music video.
The song centres on a possessive, unsettling kind of control within a relationship, a recurring refrain that frames getting one’s own way as an act of violence, paired incongruously with an apology that never quite feels sincere. The verses widen out from there, touching on a generational gap between two people, a jaded disillusionment, and a searching, half-abandoned relationship with faith, all filtered through Faye O’Rourke’s knack for holding tenderness and menace in the same line, with an unmistakeable Stevie Nicks-nod in that “I’m a little older than you” lyrics.
Previous single ‘Suit & Tie’, released back in February, which found Faye O’Rourke writing about feelings of displacement and unbelonging, tracing her own mixed Dublin/London heritage against living in Dublin’s Liberties. That single also came with the announcement of the band’s first North American tour, happening at the moment from Detroit on September 11th to St Louis on October 9th, including stops at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right and The Echo in Los Angeles. Soda Blonde, Faye O’Rourke (vocals), Adam O’Regan (guitar/keys), Donagh Seaver O’Leary (bass) and Dylan Lynch (drums), formed out of the ashes of Little Green Cars in 2019, and have built a steadily growing following across Ireland, the UK and Europe since, including two acclaimed albums, Small Talk (2021) and Dream Big (2023), and recently, an orchestral collaboration with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.
