Mac Miller’s last act of self-care (Nialler9 Podcast)

Avatar

The OG team of Andrea and Niall are back in the hot seats for Niall’s first podcast of 2020.

First, Niall reports back from Eurosonic in Groningen. We share our reasons to be cheerful and review tracks from Thundercat, Orla Gartland and two from The Turning soundtrack.

Our album of the week is the sixth and final album from Mac Miller. Miller died from an accidental drug overdose due at the age of 26 in 2018. Circles was finished at the request of Mac’s family by producer Jon Brion and feels about as complete as a posthumous album release could be. It’s also companion project to his August 2018 record, Swimming. There are moments of self-reflection, self-care as Mac was learning to cope with his mental health and to strive forward, was learning how to look after himself which sadly contextualises and deepens his loss.

Finally, we ask what’s consuming you? as we share our TV, movies, music, books and podcast recommendations from the Christmas period.

Tracks of the week
Empress Of – Call Me
Mitski – Cop Car
Orla Gartland – Heavy
Thundercat, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington – Black Qualls

Album of the week: Mac Miller – Circles
Good News
Circles

Closing track: Cynema – Radio Love
