Moving Still drops Ouddy Bangers – Volume 2 of Middle Eastern disco and pop reworks

Avatar

Our Irish-Arab producer favourite drops a new edit EP of reworks of disco and pop bangers featuring female vocalists from Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and more.

Ouddy Bangers – Volume 2 is a free download available today, and showcases Moving Still’s gift for elevating already lush dance music into more modern sounding versions.

More on the tracks:

The A-side of the EP pays homage to Moving Still’s favourite type of tracks: late 80s and early 90s female vocal-driven disco slammers. The A1, originally unearthed on an obscure YouTube channel, “Khatar” by Sonia Salama, also known as Farouk Salama’s Wife, undergoes a transformative revival by Moving Still. Retaining its essence with a distinctive arpeggiated bassline, a blend of 707 and 808 drums, and a pulsating arpeggiated solo, this track promises to ignite dance floors worldwide. He explains, “The original track is already a slammer, with a chorus that truly says it all. The music video is equally wild; I think it holds the essence of the song’s energy. Editing this track was hard at first as I couldn’t get it right, but once I added a bit of muscle, I couldn’t resist sneaking in a playful Arp solo towards the end.”

A2 showcases “Feen” by Lebanese singer Luna Badran, celebrated for her iconic album (Sayyadah). Luna Badran’s mysterious absence from the music scene adds an intriguing allure to her presence on this EP. Moving Still injects a vibrant percussive intro tailored for DJs to ignite the dance floor. Complete with a smashing gated snare and lush Roland JX-3P synth backing, this track is primed to make waves.

On the B-side, Moving Still delves into childhood influences, starting with Egyptian singer Talaat Zein’s energetic hit “Yallah,” a modern Arabic pop music staple. Moving Still’s reinterpretation infuses a syncopated acid bassline, and uncle Dabke claps, injecting fresh energy into this catchy anthem.

Moroccan Raï singer Cheb Rizki’s standout track, “Rou7 Salehha,” closes the EP. Retro Cassette brought it to light and featured it at his Boiler Room Debut. Inspired by its banger qualities, Moving Still adds a rave-esque twist, guaranteeing a euphoric conclusion to the EP.

In his own words, Moving Stil shares, “I’ve been eagerly awaiting the perfect moment to share Ouddy Bangers Vol.2, and now it’s finally here. Offering these tracks for free is my way of thanking everyone who’s supported me over the years. I hope they fill dance floors and create lasting Ouddy memories and connections. Special thanks to my wife for her unwavering belief and support in bringing this project to life. To my kids, having you alone motivated me every step of the way.”
