New four-part Prince podcast details the whole story behind his seminal 1999 LP

Prince: The Story Of 1999 part 1 is now available on Apple Podcasts, Google Play & Stitcher.

Ahead of Warner Record’s reissue of Prince’s 1999 on November 29th, his estate and label have teamed up the 89.3 The Current‘s Andrea Swensson on a four-part podcast series which details the classic album in full.

Swensson is in a good position to host and direct the podcast, not only as a radio host on twin city radio station The Current, but as the author of the new liner notes for the upcoming 1999 reissue.

Here’s what Swensson said about the opportunity to host the podcast – “It’s been such a treat to take a deep dive into these vault tracks and speak to collaborators about the pivotal period of Prince’s career when he introduced his Minneapolis Sound to the world, Prince and The Current had a special relationship, and it means the world to us to see this partnership continue and to work in collaboration with The Prince Estate.”!

The podcast seems like Prince nerd gold, examing the musical and cultural backdrop to the album, featuring in-depth interviews with collaborators and band members.

Part one of the four-part podcast is available now on Apple Podcasts, Google Play & Stitcher.

We’ve been listening to it here.
