New live music venue opening on Dame Street modelled on ’80s Dublin venue The Underground

Temple Bar will get a new live music venue from late September.

The Underground will take its inspiration from a venue that was also in situ on Dame Street in the 1980s (it’s now the Lapello lap dancing club) and aims to recreate the spirit of that basement venue.

Dave Judge, of Abner Brown’s / Canalaphonic is behind the new venture and says that the 120-capacity venue will aim to be a place for artists starting out.

“I think there’s an opening in the city centre for a small intimate venue where independent acts can start out and network , I’ve gotten to know a lot of people on the scene in the last couple of years and hope to bring something new to the city . It’ll be a hub for all genres and people who love music.”

The new venue is still being renovated but it will be next door to Peadar Kearneys  and Hard Working Class Heroes will be among the first to use the place to showcase acts in late- September.
