Alarmist debuted the rolling twisted rhythms ‘Bunda Internacionale’, a song which also has African and jazz touches a few weeks ago.
The EP from which that is taken is now here for listening: Pal Magnet as a whole is four-tracks of bright and vertiginous music. ‘Aztec’ is well-titled, the opener is like discovering some ancient tribe playing exotic post-rock in the forest. ‘PG Films’ is positively tropical in tone and expression while the title track is full of complex and intricate melodies. The overall impression is a unique one: like the original prerequisites of the term post-rock, they use their instruments of rock in ways that incorporate jazz, electronic and truly experimental textures to create something unlike the standard. Alarmist’s music spins and pivots in motion and colour.
Pal Magnet is out this week. They support Toronto hip-hop/jazz trio BadBadNotGood in the Sugar Club on Thursday November 14th.
