St. Vincent – ‘Birth in Reverse’

Avatar

For her new self-titled St. Vincent album, Annie Clark sounds like she’s dialing up the sonics and embracing a stylistic direction. If ‘Birth in Reverse’, the first track from it is any indication, we’re in for a wild distorted ride. The press release says the album as “meshes distorted, aggressive electric guitars and ethereal vocal and synthesizer arrangements on top of an infectious rhythm section and relentless percussion.”

Much of that description sounds like a lot of St. Vincent’s work but keywords evident in ‘Birth in Reverse’ are “aggressive” and “relentless”. In that regard, it’s much like the spiky single she released last year ‘Krokodil’, with taut punky rhythm and a touch of groove glam rock.

The album is out on February 11th and can be pre-ordered now. All pre-orders come with an instant download of this track. She also plays the Olympia that month.
