The Sugar Club are live streaming sets from 80 Irish DJs in the next month

The Sugar Club and DJ Arveene have put together a huge series of live streamed sets from DJs around Ireland which will be broadcast across the next month.

The DJ sector were one group of the industry that was largely left to their own devices during the pandemic, with few opportunities available to make money for those who rely on it.

So Arv and The Sugar Club addressed this with a lineup of contrasting DJs playing all sorts of music – from techno, to disco to Ethiopian jazz, soul and beyond, a full live stream of DJ sets of an hour each will be broadcast on twitch.tv/thesugarclub on 1pm and 7pm each day until the end of October.

Some of the names include Sally Cinnamon, EMA, Mix & Fairbanks, Marcus O’Laoire, Lumo Club DJs, B+, Tara Kumar, Kate Brennan Harding, Kate Butler, Selky, Ruth Kavanagh, Efa O’Neill, T-Woc, Gully Dr Irie, DJ Flip, Ngoni Egan and more.

“A lot of live music, traditional acts, and bands have benefited from funding and support. However, for the most part a lot of DJs haven’t. The DJ is such an integral part of our musical experience, everyone has that memory of a DJ dropping a certain tune, on a night out or at a festival.

When The Sugar Club called, I knew I wanted to send the message that the DJ’s haven’t been out of mind. I also felt that we needed to properly showcase the abundant, evolving and multicultural nature of Irish society today. Numerous line ups I’ve seen really lacked a diverse representation across the board. DJing and club culture has no colour or gender, it represents us all, everyone is welcome and we should all have someone who inspires us or represents us.”
