Youtube Friday!! – MF Doom
Definitely one of my favourite MCs in hip hop, MF Doom has taken on so many alter-egos and aliases it can be hard to keep up with him. From his start with KMD in 1991 through countless masked appearances as MF Doom, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, Madvillian and Dangerdoom his output has been consistently dazzling with penetrating rhymes and innovative use of samples. He is also an established producer recently working on Ghostface Killah’s Fishscale not to mention 10 volumes of instrumental hip hop called Special Herbs. It’s a great feeling to discover an artist with such a large back catalogue to dig into. Doom consistently surprises me on each album and leaves me wondering why he’s not a huge star. His recent appearance as Dangerdoom and on Gorillaz latest album has raised his profile so a lot more people are starting to hear of his talent. I will be doing some posts over the coming months highlighting some of his work so watch out for that. For now, you can whet your appetite with videos from Doom’s past.
