THURSDAY JANUARY 11TH

Sling Slang! @ The Friary (8.30pm, free)
The biggest little venue in the city continues its monthly spoken-word night upstairs in the mezzanine. This week: Stanley Notte, Julie Goo, Kieran Raftery.

Podge Lane @ The Brú (9pm, free)
That alt-folk troubadour with the hip-hop, comedy and bluegrass influences you ordered is here. And he’s bringing Síofra in support.

FRIDAY JANUARY 12TH

Horse, Crevice and Not Earth @ An Spailpín Fánach (9pm, €8)
A special triple-headliner of fine left-of-field sounds in aid of Cork Simon Community: hardcore/sludge quartet Horse; synth/ambient improv trio Crevice; and jazz/psych improv trio Not Earth.

The Moonstomp @ The Sextant (9.30pm, free)
Skavna and Fiasco back at the decks on the quays after a return over the holidays. Ska, reggae, two-tone, rocksteady and more. Shine yr boots.

Jacob B. @ Cyprus Avenue (10pm, €10)
House, techno and garage all night from Detroit-influenced Polish prodigy.

TABOO @ Amp Venue (11pm, €10)
Stevie G, Grillz and Cheddar are joined by guests Gwada Mike and Todsoul on the decks for their monthly hip-hop/dancehall/afrobeat excursion.

SATURDAY JANUARY 13TH

First Fortnight Therapy Sessions @ DeBarra’s of Clonakilty (8pm, €10)
The local swing of dates from Ireland’s mental health-focused arts festival for Clonakilty brings together an eclectic local selection of poets and musicians: Wiggle, Tony Walsh, Míde Houlihan, Eoin O’Neill and Moze M. Jacobs.

Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy: Depeche Mode Party @ Cyprus Avenue (9pm, donations)
The official conclusion of the holiday season is usually when the Polish community in Ireland host their W.O.S.P. gigs for various medical causes. In an evening show before the big afternoon gig on Sunday, a party in celebration of eighties synth songwriting of all shades, with an apparent focus on Depeche Mode.

South Main Beat @ An Spailpín Fánach (9.30pm, €5)
Darren Kelly and guests are upstairs in the South Main St. venue, with visuals from Jesse James Hallaway, giving a big kickoff to a new audiovisual night in the city.

SUNDAY JANUARY 14TH

Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy: Final @ Cyprus Avenue (3pm, donations)
In the annual Polish tradition, the local Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity gig happens at Cyprus Avenue. Fundraising for CPR courses, medical equipment and other necessities in Poland, the campaign enters its 26th year, and among those performing at this diaspora edition: rapper Bubba Shakespeare, blues wunderkinder Crojayn, Paula Drozd, Sugar Mountain and more.

BeatLab Social @ The Roundy (4pm, free)
The Cuttin’ Heads lads give you samples when you turn up. You’ve two hours to mangle them into something else, or just hang around watching the beatmakers go at it. No minimum on required experience, though a quick tussle with a tutorial video or two is recommended for total beginners.

Claude Bourbon @ Levis’ of Ballydehob (7.30pm, donations)
Live action from a singer-songwriter described as “a melange of folk, blues, songs, classical and Spanish guitar”.
