1.
Sven Wunder
Snowdrops
An elegaic and calming song from last year from a Swedish musician. ‘Snowdrops’ is a sumptuous undulating jazz instrumental that I’ve been revisiting this past week.
2.
Ragz Originale
send 4 u
Ragz Originale’s distinctive vocal style first came to my attention through his collabs with Oscar #Worldpeace (though he has worked with Skepta, Georgia, Denai Moore and Benjiflow too), and this track comes from his recent WOAH mixtape.
3.
Extra Credit
‘It’s Over’
Brand new on Soulwax’s DeeWee label, Extra Credit is the work of three high-profile producers and DJs Justin Strauss, Marcus Marr and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard. ‘It’s Over’ is one of two tracks that is on their opening release and sets out a brooding roving electronic style. Pre-order links.
Now would be a good time to tell you to spend time listening to Justin Strauss’ extensive Soundcloud of remixes over the years. Some classics in there.
4.
Moses Boyd, Katy B
2 Far Gone
Moses Boyd enlists Katy B for a new version of ‘2 Far Gone’ originally released on his Dark Matter album last year, adding a pop focus to the jazzy garage number. Moses is on Later…with Jools Holland on Friday 26th February.
5.
Cobra Man
Heatwave
LOS ANGELES POWER DISCO!
Cobra Man is Andy Harry and Sarah Rayne and ‘Heatwave’ is a smushy sweat-droplet-inducing jam. “Grind it out for the heatwave,” is very relevant to our lives.
6.
El Michels Affair
Murkit Gem
After their recent Bollywood psychedelic jam, El Michels Affair return with an off-kilter Mumbai soul funk track to be featured on the upcoming Yeti Season album.
7.
Alfie Templeman
Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody
A classic taut glittery guitar pop song from the 18 year old Alfie Templeman from his mini-album Forever Isn’t Long Enough out on May 7th via Chess Club Records. It sounds like a tune you’d find on an unknown 7 inch.
8.
Dawn Richard
Bussifame
A workout dance-infused R&B from the New Orleans artist, inspired by her hometown, which will feature on her upcoming album Second Line, out in April on Merge.
9.
Alfa Mist
Run Outs
A beautiful jazz instrumental from Alfa Mist as heard on Benji B’s radio show.
