Gurriers have announced their second album Nobody’s Coming To Save You, out September 25th via Play It Again Sam, and shared the title track today.
They’ve also announced an extensive UK and European autumn tour including two Dublin shows: Vicar Street on Thursday October 29th and the 3Olympia Theatre on Sunday November 1st and a Belfast date at Ulster Hall on Wednesday October 28th with Enola Gay and Child Of Prague supporting.
The album was recorded between Donegal’s Attica Studios and Holy Mountain Studios in London, produced by Mark Bowen of Idles and Loren Humphrey (Geese, Cameron Winter), engineered by Chris Fullard (Idles, Sunn O)))) and mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Swans, Modest Mouse).
The title track is a swirl of metallic guitar tones and rock energy with a bleak outlook – that started life as a response to a review that criticised the band for “saying so many political things but having no answers.”
.“We’re a band, we’re not a political party! So I used a Vonnegut quote, and one from [American writer and activist] Rebecca Solnit – ‘Hope is an axe you can break down doors with’ – because I don’t have the answers, but these two people might?”
The video, directed by Thomas James (Kneecap, Young Fathers, Bring Me The Horizon), is set in a post-apocalyptic future and crosses music video with psychological horror short.
“It’s a song that feels hopeless on its first listen, but if you look at it more deeply it’s a call to action – no one is going to rise up if everyone expects someone else to do it. We all have to do our part in creating the change.”
Nobody’s Coming To Save You follows their acclaimed 2024 debut Come And See and a period that saw them play Later with Jools Holland, Glastonbury’s Woodsie and Leftfield stages, and arena support slots with Turnstile and Kneecap.
The new album scales everything up – sharper dynamics, bigger production, the same urgent worldview pushed further.
Irish dates this summer also include Mike The Pies in Listowel on June 19th, All Together Now on July 31st and Electric Picnic on August 28th.
