The third single from Pugnello lands alongside a Dublin album listening events at Big Romance next month.
Gilla Band have shared ‘Alogia’, the third track lifted from their fourth album Pugnello, out on Friday September 25th via Rough Trade Records.
The video is directed by Cuan Roche and Chanthila Phaophanit.
‘Alogia’ takes its name from the clinical term for poverty of speech associated with mental health conditions. Dara Kiely was diagnosed with schizophrenia while writing the lyrics, and his words on the track are blunt and darkly funny: “I thought I could just walk off the old mental illness but alas!””
It sits third on a record Kiely has described as an attempt to document everything that has happened in his life since the last record – 2022’s Most Normal, taking in childhood distractions bleeding into adult routine, grief, obscure footballers, Bible references and, in his own words, general silliness.

The album title comes from a haunted font in one of his uncle’s horror novels. The artwork is Kiely painting over deliberately bad tour photographs, blurred shots and fingers across the lens, working on the idea that something can be made out of the grey of it all.

The band have announced two pre-release listening events, where Pugnello will be played in full on a proper sound system ahead of release, followed by a Q&A. Both nights come with exclusive merchandise, giveaways and collectibles available only to attendees.
