Aoife McCann’s Æ MAK project has announced a new EP called Berlin is due on on April 21st, along with UK and Irish dates and a new single called ‘Shimmer Boy’.
It’s the first music from McCann since ‘Sun God, I’ll Be Your Woman’ last year and the Class Exercises EP in 2021 featuring ‘New Friend’ who recently moved to Berlin from Ireland with her best pal after a breakup.
“I headed over to Berlin for a couple of months late 2021 and this was the first song I made there. I didn’t have a mic that week so I just recorded the vocals and harmonica with the laptop mic and leaned into that nostalgic indie sound. The lyrics are made up of a stream of texts between me and Shimmer Boy himself. The start of a bit of magic. We both live in Berlin now.”
Of the video, McCann says: “The video is really a snapshot of my new life in Berlin, pals and new love and chaos and feeling lost/overwhelmed.”
The EP named after the German metropolis is said to be “a collection of songs inspired by winter; harmonica, sexting, dancing, chest flames, clubs, self-destruction, rebirth and baked cheesecakes.
Additional production and mixes on the EP comes from ATRIP, Kojaque and David Noonan (Just Mustard).
