Galway-based electronic artist and Choice Music Prize-nominated producer Elaine Mai has announced a new series of one-to-one music production workshops, supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
Applications are open now at the link below, with a deadline of Friday April 24th.
The programme offers five artists paid, six-hour sessions focused on building practical skills, confidence and independence in music production and mixing. Participants will be selected at random from eligible applicants.
The initiative is a direct response to the persistent underrepresentation of women and marginalised artists in production and mixing roles – a gap that shapes not just who makes music but who gets to finish and release it.
The workshops are open to artists who have released at least one piece of music and face barriers to accessing production skills, including women, non-binary and trans artists, disabled artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, artists from migrant backgrounds, and those based outside major music hubs.
The programme grows out of Mai’s own recent experience – she received Arts Council-supported mentorship from UK producers Simon Neale (Shadow Child) and David Phelan, and is now passing that knowledge on directly. “That one-to-one time was invaluable,” she says. “I learned so much about production and mixing, and these workshops are about passing that on.”
Mai continues to perform live this summer, with upcoming dates including Beyond The Pale Festival in Wicklow on June 14th and the Mother Pride Block Party in Dublin on June 27th.
