Special shoutout to the ever-brilliant Stephen Maurice Graham for his illustration. This one, he says, is down to that Psychemagik track and the film Dazed and Confused. Please enjoy 15 tracks in under an hour. A bit less talking, a bit more mixing on this one than usual.

We promise a podcast every month in 2013. It’s our new blog resolution. Here’s the first of the year and the forty-second Podcast in the series. Aoife Mc and I talk about, and play some of my favourite tunes of the last few months. Artwork inspired by Frank B’s ‘Chain Of Fools’ as heard on this episode.
There has only ever been one clear number one for me in terms of remixes this year. It’s a track which slayed dancefloors from Dublin to Barcelona to Novi Sad. As ever, Four Tet has his hand in the pot and could have had a few more were it not for good showings from Friends Of Friends with Lol Boys and Shlohmo, Goodtime’s remix project, Kanye’s ‘Mercy’ doing the remix business, Nicolas Jaar, Jape, Young Wonder, Bantum and Hudson Mohawke. Full list of 25 remixes with a Soundcloud playlist for all but two. I’d love to hear your favourite in the comments…
Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth shone the spotlight on his music with recent edits of Frank Ocean and his own music video for ‘Charly Wingate’. That song features a Daedelus-esque knack for brain-twisted synth lines and percussive beats buoyed by rap samples. The song is the lead track off the newly-released Last Words EP, a release which showcases Hemsworth’s skills for creating warped electronic pop music paired up with hip-hop beats. The outcome is a parallel yet less overblown release to “trap”, or the club-oriented instrumental rap music that’s hot right now. Last Words is for the headphone wearers and bedroom producers. You may have heard Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth’s deft and subtle rework of Frank Ocean’s ‘Thinking About You’ (below) in the last few weeks. It sounds like his original material is also of interest though, ‘Charly Wingate’ reminds me of Daedelus in the way the song builds orchestrally only to punctured by MPC-style beats and a rap sample. The hand-drawn video by Octave Abaji and Hector De La Vallee suits the vibe too.
Hemsworth will release a Last Words EP on August 21st through WEDIDIT and a remix from Shlohmo will feature on that. He has also done some rap production work for Haleek Maul and Main Attrakionz, has remixed Grimes and made a 22 minute original mix featuring contributions from 27 rappers and posted a Truants mix.
