Bodytonic’s Bernard Shaw space has been on the Northside of the city since it took over the Porterhouse Whitworth, at Cross Guns Bridge in Glasnevin in 2019.
Since then, the Bernard Shaw pub opened the venue basement and space The Racket for live events and a studio 2022, and kept its Eatyard outdoor food space going in the yard all through COVID too.
This week, they are launching part three of the original plan – a store – which will feature vinyl records by Absys Records, along with art, fashion, books, zines and other cool stuff.
The Racket Store opens in The Racket Space during the day before the events take over at night, much like when Elastic Witch was doing its thing in Twisted Pepper.
The official opening is this Saturday April 20th to coincide with Record Store Day, and there will be a lineup of local DJs playing and discounts on offer from 1pm to 11pm. Opening hours will be Thursday to Saturday from Noon to 6pm.
DJs include JWY, Sahana, Jamie Langan, Niall Kelly, S-Agenda, Pagan, Derv, Collie, Sheehy, Polish Pau, Dobee One, c0p and SHO Absys on the decks.
“The point of this shop is to try to create a hub for local musicians & creatives” says Racket Promoter, Rossa Doherty. “The best music scenes across the world often have a place where musicians will meet, create, socialise, and more. With the opening of the store, Racket Space becomes somewhere where you could go shop for records, grab a coffee, work on music in the studio, try different street food, and have a beer – all under the one roof. We want it to be the sort of place where you might bump into the friends you’ve made through the music scene, chat about what club you were in the night before, what DJ played what tune, and which gig you’re looking forward to.”
