Carriages bring warmth & a heartfelt playfulness on their Homebeat-released Movement EP
Harry Bookless and Aaron Page’s Carriages project takes field recordings and weaves them into songs that sound organic, quaint and transformative at the same time.
The Carriages project is the perfect start for independent promoter Homebeat’s new label arm as they are at the cross section of HB boss Emmet Condon’s musical interests and they have been regular features at Homebeat gigs.
The Movement EP is out on Friday from the duo and follows recent singles ‘Like A Child’ and ‘Moving Parts’ with five new-songs.
Plucked instruments and rhythmic sounds create a charming bed for these songs to exist and for Page’s deep voice to soar amidst the space and playful energy of Bookless’ productions. These songs are little beauts – the sound of pottering and pleasure in one electronic folk package. Listen here:
The Movement EP is out Friday on vinyl and digitally via Bandcamp and a launch show takes place in the suitably intimate Fumbally Stables on Saturday.
HB001 - Carriages ‘MOVEMENT’ EP
1. Darts
2. Searchlight
3. Hardest Mile
4. Interlude
5. Tired Love
Says the band and Emmet of the release:
As much as creating any artistic statement, I try to approach putting on shows as a genuine
reflection of my own tastes – so in essence curating each show with the hope that it works
artistically primarily. Carriages are really the perfect amalgamation of my own musical tastes
which jump from softly picked folk all the way to electronica and techno, and hence the
absolutely perfect note on which to start our output as a label.
The complex simplicity of Harry’s found-sound based, organic production style is the perfect foil
for the beautiful timbre of Aaron’s voice – the richness of which carries the truth of his heart as it
weaves its way through his heartfelt songwriting. There is a warmth, a genuineness, and an
ingenuity in Carriage’s music that embodies everything that I hope Homebeat stands for.
The ‘Movement’ EP bursts into life with the glorious strains of ‘Darts’ and then swells though the
curious Searchlight, the thoughtful lines of Hardest Mile, a shimmering Interlude, before softly
whispering out with Tired Love.Having worked together on numerous shows, festivals, a small Irish tour, and having talked
about it for a long time – it has always seemed to make sense that Homebeat and Carriages are
the perfect vehicle for each other’s endeavours – we are so delighted to share the wonderful
work that is Carriages’ new ‘Movement’ EP with you.
The dream continues, let’s see what comes next.
Emmet, Harry & Aaron.
