Sometime Broken Social Scene member and Metric frontwoman, Emily Haines is releasing her first solo record soon as the name Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton. Entitled Knives don’t have your back, there’s a stark contrast here to the energetic songs on Live it Out .
It sounds like it was recorded late at night by candlelight with Haines confiding in her piano. Any other instrumentation is subtly used and lower in the mix – ocasionally organ, strings, horn and guitars join in to add to the intimate mood. Haines’ voice shines through as the highlight throughout perfectly suiting the confessional styles of the songs.
Check out the evocative music video by Jaron Albertin featuring Haines freaking out in a supermarket. And you can download it for your iPod too.
