New music: Clean Bandit, Sam Smith, Twigs, Raleigh Ritchie & Abigail Wyles
The best new music/artist picks of the last week. As published in today’s Day & Night Magazine. Follow Day & Night on Twitter and Facebook.
Clean Bandit
An electronic collective from London whose music is reminscent of the playful melancholic side of Hot Chip except with a violinist and both male and female vocals. They’ve supported Alt-J, Disclosure and are playing The Academy 2 on October 30th. Watch the video for ‘Dust Clears’ for starters.
Sam Smith
He’s appeared on Disclosure’s smash-hit ‘Latch’, now Smith’s own big tune ‘Safe With Me’, with production by Two Inch Punch has arrived.
Raleigh Ritchie
This Bristol singer’s future R&B popas heard on the three-track free download The Middle Child EP has a British Frank Ocean vibe.
Abigail Wyles
London singer-songwriter Wyles’ soulful voice is paired with the ambient synth-driven arrangements from producer partner Holly Simpson on debut single Mantra.
Twigs
She’s appeared in M.I.A.’s latest video and her look has already set her up for fashionista coverage. However, it’s her weird and wonderful tunes that really matter, ethereal, dreamy, and wonky R&B tracks that leave an imprint much larger than their sound.’Water Me’, from the Young Turks EP2 out September 9th, also has a discombobulatingly altered video to boot.
