Slowthai announces anticipated debut album Nothing Great About Britain
We’ve been fans of Tyron Frampton, the UK hailing grime and rap artist known by his moniker Slowthai for a long time, so we were happy to hear the announcement of his debut album titled Nothing Great About Britain earlier today – plus a new track ‘Gorgeous‘.
Set for release on 17th May 2019, the album was largely recorded in early 2018 in East London with Kwes Darko at the helm on production. There’s some big names on the album such as the Mura Masa feature ‘Doorman’ that we heard last year and a Slaves collaboration called ‘Missing’. Skepta and Jaykae are there as well on two separate feature tracks.
If you didn’t guess from the title, the album is politically hinged and presents a succession of candid snapshots of modern day British life; drugs, disaffection, depression and the threat of violence but juxtaposes these themes with hope, love and defiance too.
Slowthai said:
“Music to me is the biggest connector of people. It don’t matter what social circle you’re from, it bonds people across divides. And that’s why I do music: to bridge the gap and bring people together.”
Slowthai plays Longitude this summer.
