Gig news! The Workman’s Club will be putting on small 50-cap shows from August 14th

The Workman’s Club has announced it will reopen on August 14th with shows of a maximum of 50 capacity.

The much-loved venue had planned that opening date before Tuesday’s announcement that indoor gatherings were kept at 50 not 100 as originally expected.

As a business, having only 50 people in for a show doesn’t make a lot of sense financially but we are very keen to help get our sound engineers, bar staff and most importantly musicians and performers back on the stage so they can get back to doing what they do best and can start to earn a bit again to help get them through these very tough times.

The venue’s full statement is below and look out for those shows on their site.

Hi Everyone,

The government announcement on Tuesday has obviously been another tough blow to the music and arts scene in Ireland. However we completely agree that people’s safety and the need to keep the virus suppressed is the most important thing and we fully accept that these measures must be kept in place in order to accomplish this.

Although music venues have been allowed to be open since the last phase of reopening with a maximum of 50 capacity and social distancing, we decided to wait until August 14th in order to give ourselves enough time to make sure we did things properly and didn’t rush any of the necessary precautions put in place to keep the venue safe for everyone.

With that we are going to go ahead with some smaller intimate shows adhering to the 50 capacity maximum. As a 300 capacity venue we have the space to easily accommodate and socially distance these shows. Everyone’s temperature will be taken on entry, all orders will be done by table service and there will be hand sanitiser throughout the space.

We’re going to play it safe and see how it goes. Like everyone else we’re just figuring things out, but we’re determined to help get the music scene even somewhat up and going again while at the same time keeping everyone healthy and happy.

We’ll be announcing more shows over the coming days and weeks so keep an eye on our website theworkmansclub.com for listings.
