First listen: Villagers – ‘The Waves’ (Jape remix)
Villagers‘ progressive new single from 2013 album Awayland ‘The Waves’ has received the ambient foggy treatment from Mmoths, and Jape is the latest Irish musician offering an alternative take. His nine-minute remix moves from bubbling steel-pan electronics to interweaving rhythmic synth lines into a resigned but hopeful long passage set to Conor O’Brien’s “approaching the shore” lyric.
‘The Waves’ is released as a 7″ single in fancy packaging shortly. Villagers recently did live sessions for Cerys Matthews and Annie Mac at BBC radio. Irish tour dates for the remainder of the year include Sunday November 11th at the Black Box, Belfast and Tuesday Nov 1th at Whelan’s, Dublin, now sold out.
Listen to a Jape out-take from Ocean Of Frequency he shared over the weekend and look out for his Scorpio video this week…
