Watch Daithí’s new dance and performance video for ‘An Irish Goodbye’

Avatar

Last March, the Clare musician Daithí constructed a new track called ‘An Irish Goodbye’ live on Youtube over two days with contributions from Clare Sands and Sinead White.

Since then, Daithí has set up an artists retreat called Beekeepers in Ballyvaughan Co.Clare and that is where a performance of the song with Sands, White and drummer Alex Ridley was recorded for broadcast on Tg4’s Samhlú and no, shared in full here with a video by Allyn Quigley which features that core performance and dancing by Mintesinot Wolde.

“The aim was to create something that celebrated art and the resilience of self expression during a pandemic. The track itself was born out of the limitations imposed during the first lockdown and the video features Daithi and his band performing the song together in the same room for the first time ever. This is in tandem with a dance performance by the brilliant Mintesinot Wolde that represents this idea of creativity emerging from isolation.”
