The weekend was stuffed with gigs mainly thanks to the Green Synergy festival that dominated Dublin. I myself chose Prefuse 73 and the Field last night in the Village. It was a disappointing night all round: Hexstatic cancelled (here’s why); I felt Prefuse played a indistinctive set when he could have blown the roof off (although plenty of others felt it was quite good) and The Field was throwing out dancefloor grooves in a minimal set which I didn’t stay around to catch.
Gav is going to do a review of Kevin Drew, but in a text to me last night he said Kevin Drew played “Where the streets have no name”. Eh, Ok. Apart from U2 covers, how was it? Did anyone catch Mala in Carnival or any of the other DJ sets in Anseo or Solas? Archie Bronson? The Herbaliser? Was Asian Dub Foundation worth the €25? Robots in Disguise sounded interesting too, whadtchathink?
Of course, there are now even more gigs competing for your cash before the end of the year, two new ones which are MIA in the Phoenix Park, December 7th and Devendra Banhart in the Village on November 8th. I’ll be happy with Dan Deacon but we are spoiled for choice at the moment.

Luciano on Friday at Tripod really lived up to expectations. Great night & a good crowd. Hope he comes back to Ireland again soon.
Mala in Carnival was excellent, top notch set, and the sound was even alright inside. The place was heaving though.
Kevin Drew was Fantastic man. Really fucking great show, happy as fuck going home. Such a nice fella and a great frontman. Canning is the dude though.
looking forward to gavs report
Kevin drew was great, played almost the entire solo album and about 6 BSS songs, as well as a dinosaur jr cover and the afrorementioned U2 cover… which was more a sort of bizarre karaoke. still unsure if they were taking the piss or not, (they also threatened to play some pet shop boys) it was a bit cringey to say the least
All in all they played over 2 hours of music, constantly switching instruments, jamming between songs and and getting pretty drunk onstage. Good fun, though could’ve done without the U2
Some irish band should play ‘Summer of 69’ in canada and see how they like it!
lots of people left after prefuse. It was odd. I caught the first field track and then wandered downstairs to my mates and got distracted cos I was high. The setting and the half full crowd really didnt suit him. Those sort of beats are best in a berlin warehouse at 5am, not a small venue in Dublin at 11pm. Couldn’t help but notice David Kitt and a few others came down shortly after too. Must have been disappointing.
kevin was taking the piss with ‘where the streets’ but still, it wasn’t funny! Wagon by Dinosaur Jr. was great though…
Was at RID.I really enjoyed them, but my mate wasn’t impressed.Got a giggle out of the crowd at it though-it was like one big girls pajama party:)
I was at Prefuse73 and The Field. Not having heard Prefuse before I wasn’t immediately impressed with the generic lounge feel of it, it picked up a whole lot though and really caught my attention. It was a pity the venue all but nearly cleared before Axel (Mr. Field) took to the stage. Berlin baby is where this event should’ve been staged but the world is not perfect and the confines of the Village had to suffice. The music was beautiful, it shot up to heaven on occasion and held me entranced the whole time and that was without being sorted for e’s and wizz!
yeap, I feel like a tool for missing out. But there ya go.
Mala was oresome.
Never had such a good night in Carnival, it actually turned out to be one of the best dubstep nights I’ve ever been to in Dublin!
And it was free!
