Now in it’s third year as a paying festival, Indiependence, the Mitchelstown, Cork-based festival returns this year from July 29th to 31st. The line-up this year features Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Editors, And So I Watch You From Afar, Therapy?, Not Squares, The Coronas, Ham Sandwich, Ash, Bats, The Minutes, Sacred Animals, Gemma Hayes, Enemies, a comedy tent, and much more.
I have a pair of three-day camping tickets to giveaway. All you have to do is email [email protected] with “Indiependence” as a subject, your name and address before this Friday at 6pm to be in with a chance.
One of the organisers of the festival, Shane Dunne answered some questions about what to expect this year:
Have you changed any aspects of the festival from last year?
It’s the same site, we’ve improved a few things this year and added some new aspects. Its not hugely different but it should look and feel better again then last year.
How has the festival landscape changed for you in organising such an event? Has it got harder?
Every year is tough but with the way things are, this year has been tougher alright. The bigger promoters are fighting to keep the bigger festivals selling so its tough for us to access quality acts but I think we have put together a really strong line-up and tickets are selling well so we’re happy enough. The value for money aspect along with the hassle free nature of INDIEPENDENCE helps us I think.
What new bands are you most excited about seeing yourself?
Looking forward to catching the Richter Collective acts on the line up likes Bats, Jogging, Enemies and Not Squares as well as local act Zombie Computer. Always have a great time at Riptide Movement gigs and highly recommend that people check out acts like Miracle Bell, Sacred Animals and The Danger Is.
..and of the more established bands?
All of the headline acts are very strong and looking forward to them all but the one act that all of us can’t wait for is Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. We’ve seen them a few times over the past 12 months and they are electric live so thats the one that we are all looking forward to.
