Ya Boy! Brighten up your year with these Cork youngsters’ rap earworm
This will put a smile on your face today.
Last week, I mentioned God Knows and his work with the Music Generation programme in Limerick, which encourages young people to get involved in music.
In Cork, The Kabin Studio in Knocknaheeny is a youth music and creative space supported by Music Generation Cork City and run by producer GMC which has helped birth this gem.
Cork film-maker and director Brendan Canty enlisted the talents of The Kabin Crew, a young rap collective (MC Tiny, MC The Kin, MC Michael, Christine Mulligan and Niamh Murphy) formed at the Kabin Studio out of weekly workshops for his short film Christy.
With their energy and talent self-evident, (AKA Darren Stewart, Jamie Forde and Michael Flannery) performed their song ‘Ya Boy’ at the film’s premiere in Cork last year and it’s lead to a full release for the track with a video by Canty for the infectious song.
Ya boy. Big up the Cork youth programme and all involved.
It was produced by GMC Beats and mixed by Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers ‘Alaska’). The music video was directed by Brendan Canty (Hozier ‘Take Me To Church’) and their promo shots were taken by Christian Tierney (Niall Horan, Hozier, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna).
