Kid Karate offer plenty of bang for buck on new double single ‘Hate’ (premiere)

Luke Sharkey

Dublin-based three-piece Kid Karate return with their first new material of 2019 today with double single ‘Hate’ & ‘The Weight’.

The band, still relatively fresh from a return from hiatus and lineup change, released the Newspeak EP in 2018. Since then, the band have been touring (recent social media snaps catch them stateside) and writing material.

Today, we can premiere some of that material. Double singles ‘Hate’ & ‘The Weight’ champion a no-frills, all thrills hard rock.

Both tracks are performed at the speed of light, with ‘Hate’ offering a near-desert rock guitar sound. Gritty distortions and strained vocals all held down with a rock-solid snare heavy beat.

‘The Weight’ comes bearing some serious riffage. The opening bars hear bass and guitar working in tandem, establishing drive and intensity from the get-go. We love the vocals on this one, the sustained note over the end of the chorus plays perfect contrast to the otherwise hyperactive arrangement.
