Maija Sofia and Naoise Roo take on a Palace Music classic this Valentine’s Day (premiere)

Kelly Doherty

Two of Ireland’s most interesting independent artists have teamed up to get your tear ducts into overdrive this Valentine’s Day.

We have the pleasure of premiering Naoise Roo and Maija Sofia‘s cover of Palace Music’s classic country tale of love and loss, ‘New Partner’.

Recorded live by Gav Hennessy for the very last episode of The Co-Present with Dwayne Woods, Sofia and Roo re-interpret Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy’s haunting love song – preserving its dark textures and adding an extra dynamic with their contrasting vocal tones creating a dialogue-like element for this tale of romantic loss and transition.

This cover is a clear testament to the duo’s love for their source material and the perfect treat for Valentine’s Day. The track is exclusive to YouTube, with no plans to release as an official single.
