Messiah J And The Expert were a hip-duo active under that name from 2003 until 2010 or so and before that as a three-piece as Creative Control with two EPs with the track ‘Bloodrush’ being the big early tune.

Messiah J (the rapper) and The Expert (producer / DJ) released four albums from 2003 until 2009: What’s Confusing You? (2003), Now This I Have To Hear (2006), … And Another Thing (2007) and From The Word Go (2009) and they were one of the best Irish rap acts of the last 15 years and one of the few to make a dent live and on record beyond a mostly insular scene during that time, largely because their influences were more wide-ranging than most and hence ahead of their time in many ways.

2006’s >Now This I Have To Hear was nominated for a Choice Music Prize that year and around 2010, the duo stopped being a going concern with life overtaking musicmaking. The Expert released some productions in the meantime.

Ten years later and the duo have shared their albums on Bandcamp and streaming service to enjoy once again. Maybe this is a sign that we will get some more MJEX music in the future? With Irish hip-hop now exploded as a genre in style and substance, it might be the right time for the elders to come back once again?

Check them out at Bandcamp.
