Milk. craft sublime washed-out indie-pop on new single ‘Always On Time’ (premiere)

Luke Sharkey

We’re delighted to be premiering ‘Always On Time’, the new single from Dublin indie-pop group Milk..

It’s the band’s first single of 2020, following up from a debut year which garnered three tracks from the group. We premiered two of them, ‘Drama Queen’ and ‘A Little More’.

‘Always On Time’ is a considerably more subdued outing from the group. Layered with dense, almost robotic vocal harmonies over a shrugged acoustic guitar accompaniment.

It’s the band’s finest single to date, always a good sign when your newest track is your best!

‘Always On Time’ has the perfect balance of substance and style, sharp songwriting bathed in an atmospheric reverb. There’s real attention to detail here, with new elements (such as the duelling horn lines) being added in the track’s second half, keeping things fresh at all times.

The crescendo, when it comes, feels like the track is being blown out, a creeping white noise that envelopes the entire mix before fading out in the song’s dying moments. Like a moment of clarity after a period of crisis.
