MuRli asserts his return to solo rap with Steve Ryan of Windings on ‘Illegible’
While the Rusangano Family are on a break, the members of the crew have been keeping busy. mynameisjOhn has DJed in various spaces and festival over the last year; God Knows has flexed his collaborative muscles with Simma Simma and Bantum most recently and MuRli has been getting into production in a big way doing beats for Denise Chaila and appearing on God Knows’ ‘Crown’.
Now, MuRLi has returned to his solo work on ‘Illegible’, his first release since his 2015 Surface Tension EP. The track has MuRli asserting his craft and return following a tough time – “I ain’t done yet / Put the pen down / I lost a whole year / Going round and round / Trouble came and went / The real stuck around / Hard in the paint / We multicoloured now.”
The track is also notable for its math-rock guitar by Steve Ryan of Windings and bass synth by Brian Dillon (Meltybrains?). The track is out today on Bandcamp and streaming platforms.
MuRli – Illegible
I ain’t done yet
Put the pen down
I lost a whole year
Going round and round
Trouble came and went
The real stuck around
Hard in the paint
We multicoloured now
I’ve been a little lost
But had you double crossed
My LEDs off
But a fella never dossed
Got many loros patiently observing what he does
Mene, Mene, Tekel Upharsin, your time is up
I ain’t done yet
I’m only starting now
Grab the crown and return it to Lost and Found
We are Up, no balloons on the house though
What a time to take possession in this rondo
And run the show, and now we friends, I’m no Ross bro
…. Before you fix your lips, watch the gloss ohhhh
And I don’t play with Y,
I stun like O
If you got eyes that can read then you know it’s U
Coming out the box
Watch for the uppercuts
They thought I’m detox
And stay bottled up
So I let it drop
Molotov!
So illegible
My God be a doctor
And I ain’t done here
So put yer pens down
Let me have your ears
Good greyhound
No sleeping on the tracks
Trouble on the line
Roger that,
Engine number 9
Vibrations (uh)
Vibrations
Wear the bad vibes down…
Abrasion
Amazing
I’m acing
Every verse, every word
Even spaces
I came, I observed
And I stayed
Don’t feel the change in the air?
AC
Like their own breath
They wanted me gone
What’s that smell
I stuck around
I ain’t done yet
Put the pen down
I lost a whole year
Going round and round
Trouble came and went
The real stuck around
Hard in the paint
We multicoloured now
You pray for the resurrection of heroes
When It came about you shunned them for euros
My gullibility online made me desolate
I wanna know what’s in the mental of people of people that hate
By now all my icons started to bow
Those who remain don’t impress me when the truths out
When they drop the instrumental, keep looking at the horizon I give you the resurrection of — back on a mission so you know the second coming synonymous with the rapture for all who ever doubted the supremacy, haaaa I’m bragging!
What the heck were you expecting
Yeah my new direction is hard like a
Hm hm
So I ain’t done yet
Leave the lights off
I ain’t done yet
Leave the lights off
I ain’t done yet
Leave the lights off
Put the pen down
