Nialler9 New Music Friday Edit Playlist:
Skinner – ‘Beer Me, Jim’
Skinner releases the last of the series of singles from his Gunge EP which is up now on vinyl pre-order on Bandcamp.
‘Beer Me, Jim’ is a saxophone-soaked post-punk song written from the perspective of a young Irish person in lieu of finding a path in a country facing high rents, growing social inequality and a future that is worse off than the generations that have come before (as confirmed by a recent report).
DOI: I manage Skinner.
Sigrid – Mirror
Nice to have the most wholesome pop star around back.
Nathan Micay – ‘Industry’ (Red Light-Out of Sight Italo Mix)
This is like a warped take on New Order’s ‘Temptation’, and that is great.
NiNE8 Collective – ‘Cold Hands / Gotta Get’
London-based NiNE8 Collective dropped a double single featuring its collective members. ‘Cold Hands’ takes inspiration from hip-hop-influenced hardcore like Show Me The Body and features NAYANA IZ and Lava La Rue, while ‘Gotta Get’ features Nige, Lorenzorsv and Bon Slim on a grimier body music take.
Members include Biig Piig along with Lava La Rue, Biig Piig, Mac Wetha, NAYANA IZ, Lorenzorsv, Nige, Bone Slim, L!BAAN and Kxrn.
Koreless – ‘Joy Squad’
Welsh producer Koreless has taken his time approaching his debut album (five years to be exact), but Agor (the Welsh word for “open”) is on the way via Young (formerly Young Turks) on July 9th and ‘Joy Squad’ is a neon-sliced woozy electronic production of tension and release.
CINTHIE – ‘City Lights‘
Berlin house producer Cynthie drops a new EP on AUS Music lead by this bicep-pumping orchestral dance track. Gerd Janson amps up the atmosphere on the remix too. Bandcamp.
Mansur Brown – ‘Kerene’
How could you not vibe to this? Bandcamp.
Pat Lagoon – ‘Detox’
Waterford MC Pat Lagoon is embodying the buzz of a sweaty house party on new track ‘Detox’.
Chaya – ‘See U’ (feat. James Vincent McMorrow)
Dublin dance artist Chaya collaborates with producer Boys Noize on a garage-inspired song that features vocals and a cowrite from James Vincent McMorrow.
Chaya will release his debut EP on 2nd July on Warner.
Yenkee – ‘Drive’
A more chill vibe from Cork’s Graham Cooney with this new tune on Soft Boy Records.
“Drive is about growing up and beginning to doubt the advice you’ve accepted through the years, before ultimately accepting that it is all useful, no matter how contradictory.”
MØ – ‘Live To Survive‘
Danish pop singer MØ is back with a new song produced by SG Lewis and and co-written by Caroline Ailin (Dua Lipa, Katy Perry).
Sure I was only thinking about where she was last week.
Willzee – ‘A Dream of Peace’
Limerick rapper Willzee’s spoken word film is a trailer for an album to come.
“Life is such a precious thing for not only humans but for all living beings on earth, over the last couple of years we have seen the loss of thousands of lives due to a global pandemic, us as people have been worn down by the unknown, my hope with this piece is to help remind people that we are not alone, together we can get there better”
Willzee
Tolü Makay – ‘Aye’
Tolü Makay reaches for a sky-scraping anthemic Afro dance pop sound on her newest single.
“Aye means life in Yoruba. A lot of what makes us who we are comes from our childhood. I want this song to celebrate life and the child we forget we were. We are who we are because of that child. I added my oriki which my grandmother blessed me with, she sings it in this song. Oriki is a Yoruba “attributive epithets” you’re given. Who you are called forth to be.I hope this song brings joy and awakens your inner child.“
Tolü was due to travel to Nigeria to create this song and reunite with her family who she hasn’t seen throughout the pandemic, but still it wasn’t possible. Tolü teamed up with some producer friends from Nigeria to gather some kids and created a mini choir.
“I was literally on the phone for 6 hours working remotely with the kids as well as the Nigerian percussionist we hired for the day (an absolute legend), he played the shakers, conga, talking drum. It was intense and I really wish I was there in person, yet despite the current travel bans, we still managed to create this magical track.”
Wyvern Lingo – ‘Don’t Say It’ (Jason Agel Remix )
A lovely remix take on Wyvern Lingo’s single from their recent album Awake You Lie.
The gals were on the podcast recently.
