Any morning you see something new happening from Limerick’s Out on a Limb label is usually a very good one.
Having provided a home for quality independent music of many stripes throughout the 2000s, including releases from now-storied outfits like Giveamanakick, Rest, and Waiting Room, the label has been sparing with its physical issues in recent years, adding to the occasion of fantastic full-lengths by proggers Shardborne and veteran alt-rockers Windings.
All the better, then, to see confirmation of a “quadruple A-side split cassette” emerge on social media and the label’s newsletter this morning, featuring the work of Limerick prodigies PowPig and Kerry troubadour Junior Brother, available for pre-order from a newly-minted Bandcamp account to mark the label’s collaboration with Galway label/promoters Strange Brew.
Featuring a pair of new tracks from PowPig, the four-piece’s contribution to proceedings sees them expand on their idiosyncratic brand of weirdo guitar-pop, making liberal use of bockety, shimmery guitars.
Meanwhile, Junior Brother’s half of the affair focuses on previously-released A-side ‘The Back of Her’, given a promo video directed by Myles O’Reilly late last year, alongside new track ‘Full of Wine’.
The PowPig/Junior Brother split is available for streaming across all the usual platforms, with physical cassette pre-orders available here.
The two bands can also be seen on the road to promote the split across a weekender next month, taking in Galway, Dublin and Limerick. Dates below.
