3. Björk – ‘Stonemilker’
The opening track from Vulnicura sets the scene.
If I’m completely honest, listening to a Björk album can feel more like hard work than enjoyment sometimes but there’s no denying the Icelandic lady’s visionary career which boldly goes where no-one has gone before. Vulnicura, her rush-released “complete heartbreak” album details in universal ways, the end of her relationship with another visionary, artist Matthew Barney. The opening track finds Bjork at her most open and honest, attempting to make sense and reach out – “Show me emotional respect / I have emotional needs,” she sings in an exasperated resigned tone as beautiful strings stir and rise around her.
