Dubliner Uly has announced a new single, EP and tour dates.
One of the worst possible things imaginable has happened to Raphino Murphy in the modern creative world this year.
In June, the songwriter lost a decade of creative work – countless recording sessions, demos, and collaborations – when a hard drive malfunctioned. A full-length project was also completely lost, which was due to be released before the end of the year.
I know what you are thinking, because it’s the same thing I am. Why wasn’t there an online backup? (Seriously, every artist or anyone with a computer should be using Dropbox or similar to back up things automatically).
However, what’s lost is lost, and Uly has rewound things to the starting line again, and approached anew with good grace, and a fresh head.
‘all the sins i’ve forgotten’ is the first taste of a new project written since then, the sometimes sad/sometimes groovy 6 track EP, a title which encapsulates his entire music vibe to be quite honest with you.
Listen:
The EP is out on November 24th.

Uly
‘Sometimes sad, sometimes groovy’.
Deeply influenced by pop, soul, jazz, nostalgic production value and doing-it-yourself – Uly (né Rafino Murphy)’s work is highly personal, exploratory and largely revolves around identity and self all against a backdrop of comforting, immersive and captivating harmony.
After a devastating loss of a decade’s worth of music and a would-be new album back in June, Uly has decided the only thing to do is begin again. Burying himself in new work and turning his back on the hectic summer festival season, Uly is set to release completely new work from September. It is sonically fresh for him, yet familiar – slotting seamlessly into his sonic world. It highlights Uly’s growth as an artist – both in craft and technical ability. It is rich, vibrant, full of texture, and maybe most importantly – it sums his work up perfectly: sometimes sad, sometimes groovy.
[…] Uly may be a child of the greatest traditions, but he’s also etching out his own corner. – Dean Van Nguyen, Pitchfork
Uly – ‘All The Sins I’ve Forgotten’ lyrics
i’m afraid of the wind
of the wind these days
and the fortune it brings
anew this time
not awake in mind
there’s a real thing
you can’t escape
is it real
or am I dreaming?
is it real
or am I dreaming?
I’m afraid of myself
of the harm my words
leave in their wake
if I walk lightly will I disappear?
if I walk lightly will I disappear?
Mmm
is it real
or am i dreaming?
is it real
or am i dreaming?
carve your face in the moonside
hang it up
with the stars that shine above
maybe I’ll forgive
all the sins i’ve forgotten
all the sins I’ve
all the sins
all the sins I’ve forgotten
