It was one of our tracks of the week and continues CMAT’s run of excellent singles ‘I Wanna Be A Cowboy, Baby!’ and the video has landed at the ranch.
Directed by Sarah Corcoran of Pillow Queens, the video features CMAT, friends and family referencing a “golden age Western movie with a boozy Dublin barbeque.”
CMAT told Clash:
“The concept for the music video was basically that I wanted to be Shane from the movie Shane [1953 western]. I ride in to save the party by bringing cans, and then ride back off into the sunset before I get the chance to enjoy the fruits of my labour.”
“The fight scene between the two lads is a direct visual reference, and everything else was basically me and Sarah, the director, trying to marry visuals of a golden age Western movie with a boozy Dublin barbeque. My proudest achievement in life so far is that i got my baby cousins to dance in one of my music videos. They completely upstaged me and I couldn’t be more delighted about it.”
Cowboy, Baby!’ acknowledges heartache with a wink. A hybrid blend of often self-effacing wit and in-jokes (RIP Vine) drawn against the soap-operatic emotional expectation of a modern country tune.
