Terrible news. After reports that Broadcast singer was seriously ill, today Warp released a statement saying she passed away this morning at 9am from complications with pneumonia after two weeks in intensive care. Broadcast’s Tender Buttons remains one of my favourite albums of all time.

It can be pre-ordered here on digitally, on CD and… Read more »

I popped along to The Academy 2 last night, that most dreaded of venues, for Mount Kimbie’s superb set. What the venue lacked in atmosphere (no dry ice, no dynamic lighting, no acknowledgement that this was electronic music made for dark basements) was made up for by the duo’s masterful command of the material from… Read more »

Let’s start with the facts. A 45 minute set. Nearly 90 minutes late on stage. €33 a ticket (plus fees). Was it worth it? Yeh probably. DOOM has always been number one on my list of rappers to witness live. Most people knew about the no-shows, the imposters, the possibility that getting your money’s worth… Read more »

Early this year, I got the opportunity to travel to Johannesburg courtesy of Smirnoff’s Be There campaign with the result being a fruitful trip into the Shangaan Electro scene amongst other things. Smirnoff’s latest idea is called The Nightlife Exchange Project and it sees 14 countries swap nightlife for one night on the 27th of… Read more »

Actress whose recent album Splazsh released on Honest Jon’s is a heavy dose of spacey shapeshifting electronica plays on the night as does Night Slug’s ghettotech 808 club-leaning Girl Unit (hear the XLR8R podcast).
