Yesterday, NAO was announced for Dublin’s Forbidden Fruit Festival and today, the singer has dropped a remix companion EP to last year’s debut album For All We Know.

Featuring 5 reworks of songs from the album, it includes a dancehall, Autotuned version of ‘In The Morning’ from Mura Masa, A Stormzy feature on the Loxe remix of ‘Feels Like’, a Sam Gellaitry remix of ‘DYWM’, SBTRKT’s subdued low-end ‘Bad Blood’ rework, and as is often the case with these things, a standout bumping remix from Kaytranada that channels those ‘Cranes In The Sky’ for a new vibe on ‘Get To Know Ya’.

1. The 2 Bears – ‘Not This Time’

With every release Joe Goddard shows he has the smarts but thus far, his project with Raf Rundell was either great or a bit cheesy as it hopped from genre to genre in search of something elusive. But the new single ‘Not This Time’, from the second album The Night Is Young, out October 13th is some considerable, repeatable pop smarts. The pair are also playing Playing Opium Rooms on Sunday November 1st.

The young Atlanta singer Raury who is just shy of 18 gets a bigger platform on a new song from SBTRKT’s forthcoming album Wonder Where We Land (out in the first week of October on Young Turks).

On ‘Higher’, Raury moves between rapid-fire rapping and hook singing on the chorus, as SBTRKT keeps the instrumentation subservient with head-nodding inducing synths and beats serving his rasp well.

Previous new album tracks: ‘New Dorp New York’ feat. Ezra Koening / ‘Temporary View’ feat. Sampha.

Sampha, Caroline Polachek, Koreless, Raury, A$AP Ferg, Jessie Ware, Denai Moore and Ezra Koening and Warpaint.

That’s the guest lineup for SBTRKT’s new album Wonder Where We Land, out September 19th. As it happens we’ve already heard the first song ‘Temporary View’ but this funny little ditty ‘New Dorp. New York’ featuring Ezra Koening also appears and shows a different side to Jerome, which references Ballroom Blitz’s ‘Sweet’ and features pitch-shifted vocals with references to New York city landmarks.

Andrew Ashong is also on the deluxe version of the album.

SBTRKT and Sampha were added to Electric Picnic yesterday.

Track list

  1. Day 1
  2. Wonder Where We Land (feat. Sampha)

SBTRKT and Sampha have connected on a track once again, which bodes well for the likelihood of a followup of the debut SBTRKT album, now released three years ago this month.

‘Temporary View’ is a reworking of ‘Resolute’, the instrumental released on SBTRKT’s recent Transitions EP, now sounding fully-formed with the dulcet presence of Sampha.

OK it’s been a few weeks due to me being away so there’s some songs that are a few weeks old in here.

Tracks of the Week playlist

1. Niia – ‘Simple Life’

‘Simple Life’, is as bare as they come, a piano-lead striking ballad with Niia’s jazz vocals yearning for something else as she “makes her lovers used the back door when they leave.” It’s an effective showcase of a new talent years in the making.

2. Todd Terje – ‘Oh Joy’

Probably the only banger we hadn’t heard from his debut and album of the week, It’s Album Time.

3. Tirzah – ‘No Romance’

Wobby electronic pop from a London singer produced by Micachu on the Greco-Roman label.

4. SBTRKT – ‘Gamelana’

The Transitions EP has been out a few weeks and this song first appeared in 2012 but this came on my headphones yesterday and took me by surprise.

5. Lone – ’2 Is 8′

Surprising hip-hop Bibio-style beats from the normally dance-oriented producer. From his new album for R&S, Reality Testing.

6. Sleaford Mods – ‘Tied Up in Nottz’

“It’s The Final Countdown by fucking Journey!” Nottingham Lo-fi English punk poetry.

7. Planet Parade – ‘Before & After’

Another quality free download track from the re-emerging Kildare duo.

8. SOAK – ‘The Mother We Share’ (Chvrches cover)

Just a lovely fresh take on the still ubiquitous track.

9.  Cornerboy Muzik – ‘Pull Up

Irish-rap beats from a Cork producer as used by Young Thug, Bun B and Fat Trel.

10. Halsey – ‘Ghost’

Speaking of the Glasgow band, this is some Chvrches’ style electro-pop from a New Jersey singer.

Roses Gabor’s hushed and cooed soulful timbre was one of three feminine voices on SBRKT’s debut album on the track ‘Pharoahs’. As Jessie Ware went from small-time collaborator to full-blown Sade-esque critically acclaimed diva, Gabor added Buraka Som Sistema, The Insomniax and Jakwob to her list of collaborators (she was also the female voice on Gorillaz’ ‘Dare’ way back).

But her voice is one that deserves its own place and ‘Stars’ her debut single produced by Redlight is a great first spotlight, a slice of live-wire club soul with twisted vocals with nods to dubstep rhythm. It’s released on Toddla T’s label, Girls Music and Ninja Tune.
