Fundido
Get A Grip
“What started as euphoric, after-band free-for-alls in the front room at Baby’s All Right now takes place in increasingly bigger rooms…”
Sound the alarm, it’s a new DFA Records dancefloor release and hold yourself together now, it’s got an indie sleaze with nonchalant vocal delivery vibe.
No shade in any way – I lap this shit up, and anyone with an ounce of dancefloor bounce should too.
‘Get A Grip’ from a Brooklyn-based Fundido, who are Latane Hughes, Billy Scher and producer Miles Felix, with Emma Dufaux on vocals – operating in that sleazy post-Fcukers slipstream except that it could easily have come out in 2004.
Adding to the fun is the square wavey bassline and pristine defenestration-in-slow-motion production, and three remixes from Make A Dance, Asa Tate and Bliss.
Modern Woman
Johnny’s Dreamworld
London-art rock band Modern Woman have released four great singles in the lead up their debut album Johnny’s Dreamworld on May 1st One Little Independent Records, and this is third one I’ve included here after ‘Dashboard Mary’ and ‘Neptune Girl’.
On this title track ‘Johnny’s Dreamworld’, Sophie Harris is more lupine than ever with a knowledge of post-punk tension coming through the music – it’s got that early PJ Harvey instant ignition feel.
Harris reflects, “I spend a lot of time in my head, and I like thinking of my mind and other people’s minds like a location sometimes, a dreamworld – I like that reading and particularly music can take you into spaces in those places you haven’t explored before.

Body Type
And What Else?
Australian four-piece alternative indie band Body Type popped up on Youtube algorithm (I think after a Lime Garden song which makes total sense – their new album is good) with this earworm indie pop call-and-response song.
“The big chorus is a cathartic cry out against feeling insecure in a relationship, those mental twists your brain makes when statements of adoration make you feel sceptical and unworthy, but simultaneously hungry for more of that sweet stuff,” says Annabel Blackman.
Body Type are releasing on King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s p(doom) records – ending a hiatus after 2023’s Expired Candy album.
Body Type are Sophie McComish, Annabel Blackman, Cecil Coleman, and Georgia Wilkinson-Derums.
CHROMA
Coalminer’s Granddaughter
The Pontypridd Welsh rock band CHROMA’s new single was commissioned by Amgueddfa Cymru/Museum Wales, a song that speaks to Welsh deindustrialisation.
‘Coalminer’s Granddaughter’ was written in response to a photograph from the It’s Called Ffasiwn project by Clémentine Schneidermann in collaboration with Charlotte James, and “explores community and Welsh politics in the years post-deindustrialisation, and how the impact on the health and lives of people who worked in those industries is overlooked.”
“We learned about mortality at such an early age. You don’t often see kids in funerals and you don’t often see kids wearing all black either. The image was so poignant that the lyrics started flowing. It was a first for us, writing and reacting to a piece of artwork. ‘Coalminer’s Granddaughter’ is about deindustrialisation in South Wales; the period and place where we all grew up.” – CHROMA
The track is from the band’s forthcoming second album 25 Forever, released on 17th April 2026 via Alcopop! Records.
‘Coalminer’s Granddaughter’ was created with support from CELF 0 the national contemporary art gallery for Wales – and Amgueddfa Cymru (Museum Wales). Bringing the national collection of contemporary art to the people of Wales and beyond through a collaborative network of partners and a digital platform, CELF celebrates and enables access for all to contemporary art through a programme of immersive exhibitions, locally inspired commissions, hands-on learning opportunities, and enriching events.
CHROMA’s last album Ask For Angela was nominated for a Welsh Music Prize in 2024.

Lauer
Rabbit
The latest release from the Frankfurt electronic producer Lauer, is the K1m Fantasy EP on New York label Melodize.
The entire release features Italo-influenced propulsion – and ‘Rabbits’ is my standout though the of ‘K1m Fantasy’ and ‘Choirs’ aren’t far behind.
‘Rabbits’ is one of those classic Lauer tracks – he sets up a groove and rides it with reverby toms, pinging neon synths and sounds that evoke wistful feelings.
Other Songs I also recommend this week:
- Massive Attack and Tom Waits – ‘Boots On The Ground’
- Theatre – ‘The Fall’
- Sailing Stones – ‘The Colour Of The Sun’
- The Strokes – ‘Going Shopping’
- Kate Nash – ‘Famine’
- James K – ‘Play’ (Objekt remix)
- Lime Garden – ‘Cross My Heart’
- Anish Kumar – ‘Passionfruit’
- Facta – ‘FB Wow’
