Onra follows up the third release in his Chinoseries, with a return to his roots of “future funk,” as heard on the 2010 album Long Distance.

That album’s late ’80s shimmering synths and New Jack Swing and & ’80s R&B influences return on Nobody Has To Know , his newest album which gets a release on All-City on digital and vinyl on February 16th, which purported to be a soundtrack to the “passion of attraction.” in a secret relationship.

The French producer was helped on the album by two multi-instrumentalists New Zealand’s Lewis McCallum and Belgium’s Pomrad on its arrangements.

The 13-track LP is being previewed with ‘No Question ft. Pomrad’:

Here’s one of my favs from that old LP:

ONRA
ONRA

Coming across as a companion piece to Onra’s 2010 LP Long Distance, the five-track Deep In The Night finds the French producer return to that sleek electro-funk synth sound he does so well. Laser funk, glittering head-nodding beats, synths and R&B vocals are on the menu. You can listen to the whole EP after the jump. It’s out now on Fool’s Gold.

Before that though, another new track that appears on a Supreme Sound From Paris SkullCandy 12″ compilation.

French producer Onra is releasing a second volume of Vietnamese and Eastern-sampling hip-hop on Dublin’s All City Records. The CD version is out now and the vinyl is out next week.

Chinoiseries Pt. 2 is based on more samples from some crate-digging that Arnaud Bernard aka Onra did on a trip to Vietnam (Bernard is French/Vietnamese himself). There are 32 tracks in total. Hear five of them below.

Finally a new podcast to wrap your ears around. Compiling the podcast is one of my favourite things to do and this month we have an extra dimension with some original artwork from Stephen Graham aka Left Overs from Belfast who provided us with the above illustration (click to enlarge). He said it was inspired by a metal-loving taxi driver he had recently. You can also check his blog. Aoife Mc is your podcast host as always – check out her food blog – I Can Has Cook? and her radio show Right Click Radio on RTE 2XM. The latest episode can be heard here.

On with the program, this month we’ve got great tracks from new and recent release in a straight up MP3 format or Soundcloud. All Nialler9-approved. Enjoy! Tracklisting below.

Nine of the best tracks of the last seven days featuring key cuts from Wild Nothing, Bombay Bicycle Club, Crystal Fighters, Onra, R.S.A.G and more.

  1. Crystal Fighters – ‘Summer’
A bonkers single from the Spanish band. It sounds like smashing songs together in a wind tunnel or Yeasayer if they really did take lots of drugs. You can download it for free from the band.
  2. Wild Nothing – ‘Chinatown’
Instant happiness from Virginia’s Wild Nothing. Album Gemini comes recommended from me – lo-fi, shoegazey, acid-washed stuff.
  3. M.I.A. – ‘XXXO’ feat Jay-Z
As much as Maya Arulpragasam’s “look at me, i’m spouting off” publicity campaign is getting on my tits, this tune remains a constant that reminds me, despite the silly album title, the gingercide video and the NY Times “I said / she said” bullshit, that she might actually produce a good third album. Here Jay-Z provides a short verse that gives you an excuse to listen on repeat once again. Another track debuted last night ‘Steppin’ Up’ with what must a Rusko’s production.

Friday night sees !Kaboogie and All City combine to bring three influential producer/DJs in grime and hip-hop in Elijah & Skilliam and Onra respectively in the Twisted Pepper. Elijah & Skilliam run the best grime blog going – Butterz , appear on Rinse FM regularly and have started a vinyl label with Terror Danjah as the first release on the label.

French producer Onra meanwhile is launching his album Long Distance which has the brilliant track featuring Olivier Daysoul (below) on it.

I’ve got two pairs of passes to giveaway to the gig which kicks off tomorrow night at 10.30pm, just holler in the comments by 1pm tomorrow and I’ll notify the winners shortly afterwards.
